Rail bridge refurbishment, Russell Street, Bathurst

Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) is refurbishing the bridge in Russell Street, Bathurst as part of the NSW Government’s rail infrastructure program across the country rail network.

Works are being completed by TfNSW’s contractor, John Holland. John Holland operate and maintain the Country Regional Network across NSW under a ten year contract with TfNSW.

Why is the work being completed?

We're replacing timber elements of the bridge to ensure the bridge remains safe for the trains and passengers that travel over it, and the motorists that pass underneath it.

We'll be:

  • Removing timber transoms and replacing them with a composite long-life transom with increased durability; and
  • Installing an access walkway for rail staff and train drivers within the corridor.

When will work start?

We'll be onsite from 1 April, until the end of May 2019, subject to final approvals and weather conditions. Our crews will be on site throughout this period from Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 6:00pm.

We will be working throughout the weekend of 25 to 26 May 2019, from 6:00am to 6:00pm.

How will I be affected?

Throughout April and May, traffic control will be in place when crews are on site, with traffic reduced to one lane. There may be short delays during this time.

A full road closure will be in place from 24 - 27 May 2019, with the detour signposted for motorists. We'll be posting VMS boards on the approach to the works, outlining changes to traffic.

Please note, pedestrian access will be accommodated throughout the works, however there may be short delays as we manage traffic.

We'll endeavour to minimise the disruption to the community where we can.
