Level Crossing Upgrade - Narrabri

Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) is upgrading a level crossing on the Newell Highway, Narrabri as part of the NSW Government’s rail infrastructure program across the Country Regional Network.

Works are being completed by TfNSW’s contractor, John Holland Rail (JHR). JHR operate and maintain the Country Regional Network across NSW under a ten-year contract with TfNSW.

Why is the work being completed?

These works are being undertaken to remove and replace deteriorated elements of the existing level crossing and ensure continued safe access for the community.

When will work commence?

Due to poor weather conditions, works have been postponed and are currently scheduled to be completed from Monday 30 March to Saturday 4 April 2020, subject to final approvals and weather conditions.

Site operations will run for 24-hours from 4.00am Tuesday 31 March to 6.00pm Friday 3 April 2020.

How will I be affected?

The level crossing including the pedestrian crossing will be closed during the works, however there will be a temporary detour crossing in place for vehicles to access (see map on following page). Traffic control will be in place when crews are on site to direct motorists. There may be short delays during this time.

There is also potential for noise and dust from the work.

Note: In an effort to reduce water usage due to the drought conditions affecting NSW, we will be using a range of alternative solutions to control dust.

We will endeavour to minimise disruptions to local traffic and business as best as feasibly possible.
