Why is the work being completed?
Once complete the works will eliminate the long-standing load limit on the Range Road Rail Overbridge and improve safety and traffic flow at the adjacent intersection.
Once complete the new bridge will also include pedestrian access across the railway line.
- Demolition of the existing Range Road Rail Overbridge;
- Construction of a new bridge at the same location; and
- Construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Colo Street, Range Road and Railway Parade.
When will work commence?
Works are currently scheduled to commence on Thursday 29 April 2021 and are due to be completed on Wednesday 15 December 2021, subject to final approvals and weather conditions.
The team will setup on site from Monday 19 April 2021 with works to demolish the structure due to occur over the weekend commencing 30 April 2021.
Standard site operations will run from 7.00am to 7.00pm, including weekends.
In addition, there will be several periods of 24 hour working during railway shutdown periods:
- 7:00am, 30 April 2021 – 6:00pm, 3 May 2021
- Early September for approximately 72 hours. (Further details to be provided closer to work dates)
- Late November for approximately 72 hours. (Further details to be provided closer to work dates)
How will I be affected?
Range Road at the rail bridge will be closed to all traffic and pedestrians from Thursday 29 April until works are completed.
During this time, motorists are advised to use the detour marked on the following page and follow the directions of traffic controllers onsite.
Traffic will be diverted via Railway Parade, Bessemer Street, Regent Street and Fitzroy St.
Additionally, traffic travelling from Railway Parage and Range Road will be unable to turn onto Colo Street.
Pedestrians can cross the railway line at the nearby railway pedestrian overbridge at Mittagong Station (marked on the following page).
Once works on the Roundabout commence in July 2021, additional road closures may be in place around the Colo Street, Range Road and Railway Parade intersection. We will provide updated details on detours at this location as this date approaches.
There is potential for noise and dust from the works, and there may be some extra vehicle and heavy machinery movements in the area.
We will endeavour to minimise the impact to the community wherever possible, during the works period.
